Don't Send Me The Bill!

War costs could total $1.6 trillion by 2009, panel estimates

The headline from CNN speaks for itself. So I wonder how many people would support this war if, though taxation, they were the only ones who had to pay for it while those who were against the war did not have to help pay for it.

Shack: I am afraid you fell for the obvious lies by Schumer.

In america, we do not all pay the same total taxes. It is a direct lie to claim that the average person will pay $4,000 [ or that a family of four will pay $16,000 ].

In reality, the richest 5% of american will pay 95% of the cost of the war. Most of us won't pay a dime towards it.

Oh, and by the way, they also included the cost in Afhganastan and other locations.

But then, what do we expect from the Culture of Corruption in Congress?

The comment above shows how the ignorant mass keeps on being sheep, and content with their herd fate.

Only believing it this way would enable them to keep on living, otherwise, it's too much despair to bear. The rich would be happy keeping you thinking this way.

The thruth is the middle class bear the most of the bill, the rich a lot less then their fair share. And don' t forget that even when the rich pay less of their fair share, their benefit of the war is more than anyone else : Foreign investments protected, some even controls the war machine and bnefit directly from government war spending, while the other classes just pay, but get little tangible (financial) benefit, besides the so called " Security" which is just an empty consolation thrown to the mass to justify the war in the first place.

Ignorant will remain blissfully ignorant while thinking they are doing well, when in reality, they just serve the rich and content to be the servant for society.

Dear Anonymous 2;
Please try to edit your comments. What is a 'fair' tax on the wealthy? How about 100%. That should collapse the economy and bring an equality of poverty to all but those who are already rich. We are at war now because of past politicians especially Jimmy Carter who have allowed the Muslim fringe to thrive. Jihadists will not disappear through good thoughts and jestures.

Shack, what a great idea. I don't want to pay for illegals and welfare. Let those who do pay the cost. You idiot. Oh yeah. What was the cost of 911?

Shack: $4000=FREEDOM!! WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT! LIVE OR DIE =THINK ABOUT IT.

Wow! This is the most comments I've ever gotten. Yes we all pay different amounts and percentages of tax but we all (well most of us) still pay. As far as the $4000 freedom is concerned, I don't believe that what we are doing in Iraq, and maybe not Afghanistan, or Vietnam etc is doing anything or did anything for my freedom. I think my freedom would be better protected if our country were more like Canada and kept our nose out of everyone else's business.

For a cool explanation on how taxes work see a post on this blog titled "Beer Can Economics".

I actually agree with you that the rich should not be taxed to death, or the economy will collapse, as you said. I just commented on the first anonymous, who believes the rich pay 95%. At that rate, your claim should take effect, and the economy should have collapsed already. So by agreeing with you, I actually proved the first anonymous wrong in naively thinking the rich pay 95% tax.

To simplyfy my claim: even if the rich pay, say 50% for tax, they are fewer than the middle class so their total contribution is, say 50 billions annually.

The middle class pay only 20% for tax, but their numbers are in the hundred millipons, so their total contribution annually are still higer, say 150 billions. So it's naively wrong to say the rich pay 95% of the war. The middle class take the largest burden. It's true in all westen countries.

It is easy to blame the past, when it becomes far and vague now. It is not easy to ignore the present, where facts are still fresh. Facts are Bush lied to get into war in Iraq, not because some old democrate went easy on Muslim. He claimed WMD to get in, and found nothing. He did not claim to move in because Muslim trhived under Democrate. Get your facts straight.
